After warming up to working weight, every 3 minutes perform 5 shoulder presses increasing weight each round.

June 2017 CrossFitter of the Month

IMG_0494 2Last Thursday, this month’s CrossFitter of the Month celebrated his fifth anniversary at South Tahoe CrossFit.  On June 8, 2012, Eric Jarvis walked through our doors at the suggestion of his friend and chiropractor, Dr. Adam Spindler. Back then Eric was looking for conditioning help to strengthen his core and his back, which was frequently in pain from his work as a photographer.
Eric was especially attracted to CrossFit’s varied program of cardio and weight training.  Most importantly, the workouts were programmed and changed daily so that members could simply show up and and know they’d be getting a great workout. He figured that CrossFit would be a great addition to his recently discovered passion for mountain biking.  Since then, he has made lots of comments over the years about how CrossFit has helped improve his riding.
IMG_0216 2You never know who is going to get into CrossFit when they first start out and we weren’t sure how long Eric might stick around. His box jumps were a bit on the shaky side and he had trouble with several other movements.  Fast forward to this past year:  Eric shows up almost daily to the 7am class and puts his heart and soul into whatever WOD is on the board. He says he’s especially competitive in any WOD that has running, pull-ups, rope climbs or toes-to-bar. After five years, he just got his bar muscle-ups so there’s still hope he’ll get double-unders within the next five year; we are sure of it!
Originally from Sacramento, California, Eric played soccer in high school. He was a political science major at UC Berkeley but developed a love for photography while traveling in Europe. He spent as much of his time in Berkeley photographing sports and events as he did on academics.  He was also the photo editor of the university yearbook.
IMG_0302 2A photography job brought Eric to Tahoe and he spent the next four years doing stints photographing skiers, schools, sports and chapel weddings. He launched his own business on his birthday in 1994 and for more than two decades now Jarvis Photography has been one of the preeminent wedding and portrait photography businesses in the Tahoe area.
In recent years, Eric has increasingly specialized in real estate photography and frequently photographs multi-million dollar lakefront Tahoe mansions. Check out some of the great photos on his new website He says that if there’s anyone at the gym who needs a house photographed, he’s your guy.
We have no doubt that Eric will continue to progress in his strength and fitness in the future.  He says he has no desire to compete, but instead he’d like to stay strong so that he can mountain bike, backcountry ski, trail run, and do all the other great things that make living in Tahoe so awesome!  Congratulations, Eric!  We are proud to select you as this month’s CrossFitter of the Month!

We will be doing 20 rep max for the next 4 Mondays so go a little conservative this week.

The WOD:
For Time:
500 meter row
50 wallballs (20/14)
25 pull-ups

Monday’s Conditioning Class:

1) 4 rounds:
    Mini Leg Blasters-30 sec rest in between rounds
2) 5 rds:
    20 cal bike
    10 weighted sit ups
    10 weighted Russian twists
    10 KB
     6 Turkish get ups-3 each side
